Providing individual, couples and family counseling.
I will approach our work together using relational, experiential "here and now", and family systems methods with a theoretical perspective in attachment theory. I will work together with you toward achieving the "nurturant solace" offered by close relationships that has been shown to protect us from physical and emotional disease, and improve our internal resilience.
Because we experience the world through our relationships, and couple distress can undermine family functioning and is strongly associated with depression, anxiety disorders and substance abuse, I will incorporate Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), formulated by Dr. Sue Johnson in the 1980's, into our work together. This research-based method works to reduce distress and create stronger, more secure attachment bonds in adult love relationships.
(To become an ICEEFT Certified EFT Therapist, candidates must meet various pre-requisites and complete several EFT training and supervision requirements, including an intensive 4-day basic EFT Externship, Advanced training courses, consultation / supervision by a Certified EFT Supervisor and review by a Certified EFT Trainer at ICEEFT of 2 different video excerpts demonstrating the therapist's grasp of the model.
